Roof Timber

Roof timber is an important and necessary factor in the construction and covering of residential buildings, constituting the frame (skeleton) of the roof and providing stability and strength to the buildings.

The right wood for roofs is the one that has resistance to moisture, wear, fire and weather, while at the same time it is flexible so that it can be shaped according to the needs of each structure. At the same time, it greatly contributes to the aesthetics, when the roof is visible or when it comes to a canopy or a pergola.

Pine and fir wood, plain or impregnated in all the desired lengths and in a variety of cross-sections, cover the entire spectrum of the architectural requirements of the roof.

Impregnated Timber

Impregnated wood is wood that has been specially treated to compensate for some of its disadvantages and increase its resistance to environmental factors. The treatments used in impregnation involve introducing chemicals into the wood cells that protect it from moisture, bacteria, insects and fungi.

Impregnated timber is a necessary material for the construction of roofs where the timber is not visible.

Wood is a natural material that can be easily attacked by bacteria and microorganisms. This results in the immediate deterioration of the wood as well as the loss of its mechanical properties.

Impregnation eliminates the above risk and gives more life time to the wood and by extension to the construction of the wooden frame of your roof.

Unimpregnated Timber

Roofing timber uses beams and boards in various cross-sections and dimensions, as well as planks for laying the tiles and for the covering.

  • The rafters are long, narrow pieces of wood that are placed in the roof frame.
  • Purlins are similar pieces that are placed around the perimeter of the roof and hold the rafters in place.
  • Boards are thin wooden boards that are placed over the joists and purlins, and then the tiles are placed.

Their use ensures the proper support and resistance of the roof to the weather conditions and the loads it can receive.
